AAUW Career Trek Held for 8th Grade Girls at Butte College

Local branches of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) are hosting "Career Trek" a one day event aimed at introducing eighth grade girls to career options in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) at Butte College, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, on Saturday, February 7.

The event is held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Butte College President Dr. Kimberly Perry will provide a welcome address at 9 a.m. and will discuss how her career path led to her becoming a college president. College resources such as financial aid, scholarships, and loans will also be discussed.

In the afternoon, Butte College biology, chemistry, computer science and math instructors will offer a variety of afternoon lab demonstrations. There is a small registration fee. The event is open to all 8th grade girls and parents. Parents are encouraged to attend the day's event with their daughters.

Organizer Jana Lawton said there will be 15 career sessions presented, including women who have doctorates, women who are graduate students and women working in entry level positions.
