Butte College Art Gallery Seeks Entries for Post-ART! ShowYellow Post-It

Exhibit Begins November 9

The Butte College Art Gallery seeks entries for its Post-ART! Show, an exhibition of artworks in various media on "Post-It Note" sticky paper by any employee or student at Butte College. Specific Post-it Note sticky paper must be purchased through the Art Gallery and used for display. Post-it Note paper is on sale at the Gallery starting October 19, 2015. Entry dates to submit artwork to the show starts October 26 – November 5, 2015.

The exhibition will begin Monday, November 9 through Thursday, December 10, 2015. A Gallery reception and award ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 12, from 4 – 6 p.m. There are cash awards and winners will be announced at the reception. 1st place is $100, 2nd place is $75, 3rd place is $50, and 4th place is $25. An impartial art curator from outside Butte College will judge the artwork. Nancy Meyer, Art Department Gallery Manager, will provide an informal gallery talk at 4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.

The multi-colored Post-It Note squares are not just for quick notes anymore. Many Post-It artworks are more than just quick sketches they are small masterpieces with a sincere sense of awe. The idea of putting something amazing on something pretty common challenges the high/low classification of artworks. It doesn't necessarily matter what medium you use; it ultimately comes down to the message. Even better is that these beautiful works often help people enter the world of art collecting. Some people may start their art collections with a Post-It Note or give art as gifts. If you have always wanted an original piece of art but didn't think you could afford it, stop by the Post-Art! Show. The whole idea behind the show is to have really accessible and affordable art for everyone and it is a challenge to work on a small scale. All kinds of artworks can be done from embroidery and stitching to oil paint, watercolor, ink, collages and small sculpture like origami. The Post-Art! Show considers all types of art to be equally valid and it can be made out of anything. Individuals can get really creative on Post-It Note paper by shifting the original function of this office supply. Check out professional artist John Kenn for an example of amazing works of art produced on Post-It Sticky Note paper.

This exhibition will acquaint the public with the diversity of our Butte College community through a show of pluralism in the Butte College Art Gallery.
